MY BEAUTIFUL HOME PROJECT
Painted huts competition to support the Matobo Villages and preserve traditions
A group of 3 non-profit organizations in partnership

The My Beautiful Home Project was established in 2014 with the intention to preserve the local Ndebele tribe’s tradition of painting homes in the Matobo districts with only organic materials.
The local area suffers from a lack of economy and as such the area is relatively underprivileged. However, our aim is to help the local people prove that tradition and comfortable living can find a happy compromise.
Each year the project holds a competition of decorated homes, this started at 30 entrants and in 2021 there will be an anticipated 1000. The competition has not only sparked the imagination of the local women, but it has also improved their homes and house husbandry. At the same time the prizes are much coveted as they seek to improve their lifestyle with practical items such as ploughs, water tanks, solar lights, wheel barrows, buckets and tubs to name a few. These are items that they cannot normally afford.
The competition has also initiated project prizes to promote environment and sustainable concepts such as bee-keeping, rocket stoves, chicken rearing, seeds for cash crops, etc. All to promote local well-being without jeopardising cultural aspects.
